Kingdom Hearts is a fascinating series. When the first game arrived on the PS2, its simplified action-RPG combat and Disney characters made it feel like a way of getting kids into RPGs; by the time Kingdom Hearts 3 came out, the series’ plot was so complicated you’d need a PhD thesis to unpack it all. But as the games grew more complicated, they also became more fun – the combat in Kingdom Hearts 3 is one of the best systems ever in a JRPG, with incredible effects and screen-filling summons. Plus, the series is filled with Disney, Pixar, and Square characters, who are a lot of fun to meet and hang out with.
